The Jericho Tavern, 56 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AE, Fri 15 November 2019
Oxford-based seven-piece and Daily Info favourites Pangolin are back in town with their trademark, syrupy melange of funk, jazz, soul and hip hop. Jemimah Taylor's vocals and Femi Nylander's spoken word dovetail nicely with the grooves laid down by the rest of the band, and there are some sax and flute solos thrown in for good measure. It speaks volumes of the band's ambitions and identity that they cite artists as diverse as J Dilla, Vulfpeck and Radiohead as key influences, and previous appearances at Ronnie Scott's and sadly now defunct local haunt The Cellar certainly aren't to be sniffed at. They are joined by another local artist, singer-songwriter Dan Rawle, who will be on support duties with some nourishing acoustic pop, drawing off the likes of Passenger, Jack Johnson and the Beatles. It's bound to be a mellow, funk-flecked Friday night down at The Jericho Tavern.
