Is it possible to see a funny side to the climate crisis? Oxford’s experimental comedy producers, QED Comedy Lab, are here to help you find out, promising to make light of a serious issue in an uplifting way. In the wake of the wildfires in Australia, they are hosting a night of stand up to fundraise both for emergency relief and wildlife rescue. Headlining the varied bill will be rising star Heidi Regan (co-host of Radio 4’s Grownupland podcast), who will be joined by several local up-and-comers who have hilarious sets about their struggles to be eco-friendly.
The comedians are giving their time for free, so that all proceeds from the ticket sales can be donated evenly between the Australian Red Cross and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), while further opportunity to donate will come in the form of a raffle: top prizes include a session at City Mazes worth £100 and a £70 haircut from the UK’s first carbon neutral salon, which happens to be Anne Veck in Oxford. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30 start, so you can arrive early to have dinner from the vegetarian streetfood truck, Greenbox, who will also be donating a percentage of their takings to the cause – so why not make a night of it as you laugh in the face of terror?
