Definitely not worth 4 stars, but fine if you are a Downey fan, like a lot of loud bangs and crashes, some implausible plot lines, and a rather unsatisfactory ending for a superhero franchise.
Most papers gave this 4 stars - it is a passable 3. Adequate acting, very good dialogue for Downey mainly, great cameo by Ben Kingsley, but overall the plot lets it down. What is supposed to be Tony Stark's strength, i.e. his love of technology and wizardry as genius developer of the magical suits, is not really reflected in the ambitions of the director, who leaves gaping holes in the logic of how the baddie's superpowers works, and indeed how Stark regularly gets out of tight spots.
Where the franchise goes from here will be interesting.
