4.00pm from our offices on the First Floor, 121 Cowley Road, on Monday and Thursday throughout the year, including bank holidays (except Christmas and New Year).
Straight away, please! This takes 1 - 2 hours, depending on the route. It may take longer the first couple of times, until you get used to it - please keep a note of how long it takes you, and let us know when we pay you. You must have your own bike. (Find a cheap one here!)
A route list (and map) is provided. This will be updated occasionally. There are 40 - 70 copies of the sheet to deliver on each route, to 25 - 50 different addresses ('drops'). There may also be posters to deliver with the sheet; when there are, please leave 1 of each type of poster per drop, handed over or pinned up as appropriate, with the sheet(s) - see 2:1 and 3. below.
2.1: At each drop, please pin the sheet to a noticeboard or hand it to a staff member. If you can't do that, please leave it on a desk or post it through a letterbox - as tidily as you can. Please don't leave sheets in places where they won't be spotted by the people who put them on display, or where they'll get rained on or walked on. There are more specific delivery instructions on your route list if something isn't obvious.
2.2: PLEASE TELL US (01865 241133 or in person), as soon as you can, if:
- you have sheets over or under your requirements;
- any distribution points do not appear to be using the sheets, or are closed;
- you spot newly opened places on your route which look like potential display points for the sheet.
Monthly, in arrears. You're paid £9/hour (plus £1 per poster type. There may be up to 3 types of posters per day). You'll be paid into your bank account at the end of the month. Please note even if you are helping out with just one spare route it is now the law that we add you to our payroll. We'll need info like your National Insurance number, your address, and your tax code if you already have a job.
You will need your own phone number (ideally mobile, as we may need to contact you urgently) and an email address.
We hope that there won't be any, as we need our messengers to be reliable! If you are taking a holiday, have exams, etc, please give us lots of notice so we can replace you in time.
When you are delivering sheets you are representing Daily Info and your conduct reflects on our business. Please behave sensibly and courteously at all times. Please note that cycling on the pavement is illegal as well as inconsiderate. It is your responsibility to equip your bicycle with lights. In winter you'll need these for every route. We would also strongly recommend you wear a cycle helmet.
...for doing a tiring but extremely valuable job! If and when you run into any problems, do just call us or come to see us straight away.
To apply for any current vacancies, please email [email protected] with your name, address, phone number and a little bit about yourself.
