Despite the sunny day, Beetroot on
I chose the grilled chicken wrap, which arrived very quickly, accompanied by a garnish made up of a sprinkling of the salads from behind the counter (a stray chickpea here, a cube of halloumi there). The wrap was the ideal size for a lunch or light dinner, substantial but not too huge. The chicken was expertly grilled, with a subtle charcoaly taste that I really enjoyed. Personally, I would have preferred a little more of the advertised garlic mayo inside the wrap, but for those who like their flavours less overpowering than I do, it would be fine.
As well as having good food, Beetroot is a comfortable setting, with a large, airy space inside and bright modern art on the walls. The current collection is titled 'Oxford Gothic', and looks a little bit Chagall-inspired - more fairytale than Gothic to me, but the pictures were interesting to look at and ponder over while I ate.
Beetroot is a solid choice for a quick and satisfying lunch, and thanks to the large tables, would be a great place to study over a coffee and a flavourful meal. The prices are reasonable, too - my wrap came to £4.95, which, considering the size and quality, was a good price. If you're looking for a place to eat during the current heatwave, do give it a try!
