The organiser says:
Haas and Dvorák of Czech, Mussorgsky and Shostakovich of Russian, Lysenko, Filtz, Shamo and Nyzhankivsky of Ukrainian cultures. Rarely performed song cycles and excerpts (some never performed in the UK before this duet) by the legendary composers of the three Slavic countries, so close to each other, but so individual in expressing emotions and perception of the world. The vocal music programme will be complemented by some outstanding solo piano works by Tchaikovsky, Lysenko and Janácek. The duet of the multi-awarding winning mezzo-soprano Anna Starushkevych and the renowned pianist Lada Valesova, whose cultural roots grow deep in the mentioned cultures, are very much looking forward to sharing this special programme with the audience of Oxford.
