The organiser says:
The exhibition is free to visit, there are over 260 hand made prints on the walls from 108 artists and a further 250 prints in browsers (print racks). The main point about this show is that we celebrate 40 years, having been set up in the late 1970s by former students and staff who were at the Ruskin School of Drawing (the Fine Art dept of Oxford University).
We have 51 framed pieces on show from former members, some of whom are founding members, and the remaining 75% by current ones. The story and spirit of the workshop is that of collaboration and sharing work. Yesterday about 30 of us hung the show, bringing in kettles, coffee pots, tea, coffee and cake etc!
In terms using the workshop, you need to have done a course before you can join us, either a course with us, or somewhere else which teaches printmaking. We run regular courses throughout the year.
New members start out as probationers paying £4.00 an hour, with costs of processes and materials. This varies according to what you do, so putting an A4 etching plate an in acid bath is 80p a dip. Printing it is 80p, unless you have your own ink, in which case 40p. After probationers have notched up 20 hours they can take out longer term membership coming in when technicians are there.
We have two part time technical staff who run the place, and we have volunteer help from members, who clean the place once a month, and help hang exhibitions and any other venture.
We are run by a management committee elected from the membership. We have around 100 members at present. We are 100% self funded, and our generated income pays for rent, heat, light, part time wages, buying in supplies, servicing our beautiful printing presses, staging exhibitions etc.
