The organiser says:
Join us for an adventure through the soundscape to explore what it's like to be lgbtqia+ in Oxford. We'll use words and sounds to think about the spaces we live in; at home, work or in public and how they affect how we feel about ourselves and how we interact with the world.
With our backpack studio we'll be sampling objects found from our surroundings, layering noises and rhythms to create a soundscape. This soundscape will be paired with spoken word and singing developed throughout the workshop and both will come together to create a final track that will be featured as part of the Queering Spires exhibition, on display at the Museum of Oxford until December 2019.
The workshop is open to anyone, of any age, who identifies as or with any part of 'LGBTQIA+'. You don't need any experience of sound or music to participate in this workshop, we'll be teaching everything you need to know about how to go about starting to make your own music.
The workshop is led by the Young Women's Music Project and architecture and design cooperative Transition by Design. The two organisations combine their understandings of music production and the built environment to explore what it means to be a citizen of Oxford. This workshop is run in collaboration with the Museum of Oxford as part of their Queering Spires exhibition.
The Gallery is wheelchair accessible and a hearing loop is available. If you have accessibility needs that you would like to discuss with us then please send us a message.
