Pleasant, old-fashioned venue with good food at reasonable prices (hence lots of business lunchers to be spotted). Lots of interior nooks and crannies supplemented by a heated & covered all-year-round courtyard, popular (and leafy, Mediterranean-feeling, and uncovered) in summer. The 'cottage' at the end of the garden is available for hire for meetings etc.

The landlord is as welcoming as ever, and this is definitely a traditional pub with a traditional landlord - one of the most traditional you will possibly find, in fact. They serve pub food including pies and Sunday roasts - it's a pub that serves food, not a gastropub.

You can even take a walk through the pub on Google Street View!

Monday to Thursday, during August and September the Rose and Crown closes in the afternnoon between 2pm and 4.30pm

This place is an Oxford classic in the most expensive part of Oxford (for those worried about prices). I've never had a duff pint in here and always enjoyed the food. If there is ever a Campaign for Real Landlords (and there ought to be) the gaffer at the R and C would win every award. Excellent beer that can be delivered in a straight glass or a handle. How's that for a throwback to the 60's?

This is one of the best pubs in Oxford. Great atmosphere , great food and staff. On every occasion we have visited we have been welcomed and been treated like valued customers (something quite rare in Oxford pubs). The food is good and well presented and good value. The Rose & Crown is well worth a visit.

The first time I had their fish & chips it was SO good that I couldn't stop thinking about it for days afterwards. The fish was enormous and the chips were the best I've had in years. The second time it was still good but not the same - I hope the first time wasn't a fluke!

The only downside to this pub (other than the pricey drinks) is that they're a little stingy in giving out tap water.
It is a fairly expensive pub, but in my opinion worth it. The landlord and bar staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, traditional interior, really nice welcoming atmosphere and very good selection of beer and wine.
This is one of the very few Oxford pubs still run by a proper landlord who will greet you on arrival, thank you on departure and do whatever he can to make your visit enjoyable.
And the beer is always very good.
Worth going out of your way for this hidden gem.
I made my first visit to this pub on Friday and I could not get over how expensive this pub is: there is not much to it, the courtyard resembles something you would have found in England in the 1970s and the interior is really cramped and smokey.
£3.60 for a pint of Stella, £3.20 for a Carling, bitter not far behind, wine OTT, take a very big wad with you!
