In My Skin (18)
Director: Marina De Van

In My Skin is a disturbing, graphic film about self-harm. Its star and creator is Marina De Van (co-writer of the French musical murder-mystery 8 Women), who plays a successful career woman who gashes her leg in an accidental fall.

After this incident, she starts feeling uncontrollable urges to cut herself, and this shocking behaviour jeopardises her personal relationships and her career.

The film is undeniably powerful, although this is mainly through its sheer shock value.

The treatment of the subject matter is deeply irresponsible, as it seems to argue that the only problem with self-mutilation is society's judgemental fear of this otherwise harmless pleasure.
