Club night review

Fat Poppadaddy's Pussycat Club
Po Na Na, Magdalen Street
9pm-2am, Tuesdays
from April 2002

The launch party of this new night of "funk, indie, 60s grooves and boogaloo beats" featured a man with independent legs, one with dancing shoulders and countless shimmying girlies. It also featured free lollipops (any distributor of free sweets is a friend of mine) and alarmingly fruity schnapps (mmm).

Not having the most appealing name in the world, and featuring a playlist that would push the most skilled of DJs to the limit of their mixing talents (veering from James Brown and Nancy Sinatra to Toploader and Pulp and back again), FPPC in fact looks set to be a good solid evening's entertainment. Having built themselves a reputation in Lincoln and Cambridge for providing exactly that for a friendly and musically broad-minded crowd, FPPC mixes up elements of existing popular Oxford nights (Fuzzy Ducks, Disques Vogue, your better-than-average college bop). It can also boast some pleasing drinks offers, free entry before 10pm with NUS card and a hardly prohibitive £3 after. You could do a lot worse than FPPC for a drunken Tuesday night's dancing.
