Daily Info's Advent Calendar 2019

Christmas Eve: Daily Info!

We reckon you probably know who we are at this stage, so instead of an introduction we thought we'd share some interesting reading which you can find around the site - though if you want to find out more about our history, you can do so here. If you're still doing your Christmas shopping at this stage, why not have a browse through the other days in the calendar for some inspiration? The printable ticklist of all the shops we've included may also help keep your Boxing Day Sales shopping on track, too...

Illustration of some of Oxford's festive traditions, by our former cartoonist-in-residence, Mary Potter. You can read a fuller account of these here.

Handy Festive Information

Haven't got your tree yet? Want to know when to put it out, to get rid of it responsibly after the big day? Not made plans for New Year's Eve yet? Want to know if your regular bus is running? See our Christmas Info page for anything you may need to check over the festive period.

Whimsical Festive Miscellany

Recipes
If you're after some inspiration for what to do with your festive leftovers, our previous Advent Calendars include some inspired ideas for Brussels Sprouts, mincemeat and potatoes. If the kids are climbing up the walls and the Christmas film re-runs aren't cutting it, you could persuade them to try some cooking, with these child-friendly recipes, or tell them about seasonal culinary traditions from history and around the world. Capons, anyone?

And, as if you need any more excuses, here are some recipes for festive drinks, so you can literally imbibe the Christmas spirit.

Puzzles and other distractions
You can find some joyously silly Oxonian anagrams, connecting walls, brain teasers and mazes, with varying levels of difficulty, collected together here. If you're after an atmospheric story for the kids as they set out their stockings tonight, you can find one here, thanks to our brilliant former team member Alice Nuttall. And a cure for any cabin fever you may experience in the strange dead zone between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve can be found in our recent blog on Oxfordshire pub walks. If you'd rather enjoy the beauty of the natural world from the comfort of your sofa, there are some beautiful photos of snowy Oxford here.

If you've enjoyed following our festive excitement, you may want to subscribe to our Editor's Picks newsletter. We send it out every Thursday (resuming on 1st January, 2020!) and pack it with suggestions for Oxfordshire's best upcoming events.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at Daily Info!
