A favourite tradition around this time of year, house-visiting wassailing involves groups of singers going door-to-door, singing (and offering a drink from the wassail bowl) in exchange for gifts.
Since such merriment is incompatible with social distancing, we are thrilled that the Chipping Norton Singers and the Rising Voices choir, both led by Cat McGill, have provided us with an alternative you can enjoy from home. Why not follow this wassail recipe to add even more festive spirit to the experience?
Cat, who is also the director of Folk Weekend Oxford and their new venture, Live To Your Living Room (an online gig venue set up in response to the pandemic's impact on the live music scene), leads a number of community choirs around Oxfordshire, designed to unleash people's creativity and make connecting with music accessible to all.
If you enjoyed this video you may be feeling inspired to join one of the choirs yourself - all songs are taught by ear, so there's no need to read music, and there are no auditions, as the focus is firmly on enjoying the music. You can also show your appreciation by buying a ticket to an upcoming festive gig Live To Your Living Room!
