In our experience, primary-age children are natural born scientists (“What happens if I pour this in here?”) and if you’ve got a small experimenter or budding engineer in the house this local company has some great kits available. A Curiosity Box is the present that keeps on giving, especially if you sign up for a subscription. Different options are available by age group, and number of activities.
Kits are themed, so all science disciplines might be covered within one box, exploring one topic in a variety of ways. A booklet offers clear explanations, and there’s usually enough of the ingredients to have a couple of goes at chemistry-based experiments - good for siblings sharing boxes. We made enough salt-cooled chocolate ice-cream for everyone to have a taste.
In addition to specific ingredients or components, there are more long-lasting bits of kit like a pestle and mortar, goggles or test tube racks, so you can build up a collection. Packaging is as eco-friendly as possible, and we love the outer cardboard boxes. Sometimes they’re needed for the activities, but they’re good for colouring and general crafting too!
