Advent Calendar 2023

Museum of Climate Hope

At a time when we’re all wishing for peace on Earth, six iconic institutions across Oxford have teamed up to give us some climate hope for the future of the planet. The Museum of Climate Hope Trail is a digital learning experience spread across Oxford’s most well known gardens, libraries and museums, showcasing stories of resilience and hope to combat climate anxiety.

Travel between locations to find artefacts curated by researchers, educators and young people to exemplify the ways we have responded to environmental adversity across generations and cultures. The objects chosen draw from literature, craft and the natural world to deepen our understanding of our relationship to the planet, from the uniquely humanist geography of the intricately engraved Bhugola (or ‘Earth Ball’), to the structure of the Giant Amazonian Water Lily in the Botanic Garden glasshouse, currently inspiring researchers to develop innovations like oceanic solar panels.

With guides and activities for visitors of all ages, the trail is a perfect way to introduce younger people to climate research and justice with an emphasis on positivity and constructive action, as well as giving them a taste of Oxford’s vibrant museum culture. So gather the family and embark on a world tour that won’t cost the Earth.
