Marmalade Festival 2023

Marmalade Festival returns this April with four days of talks, workshops and lectures. Daily Info sat down with the team behind this ace festival and found out what to expect from 2023's installment.

Daily Info: What's Marmalade Festival all about?

Marmalade Festival: Marmalade is the home of social change. For over a decade, we’ve been working with organisations both locally and globally, to ensure that voices are heard, and change is made, in areas that really mean something to everyone. We focus on relationships, power and place, and everything that falls between these themes. The festival takes place annually and has seen a variety of iterations over the years, 2023 is our biggest ever. We use this week to celebrate the work that has already been done around social change, and to encourage thought to drive more projects and campaigns in learning how to make Oxford, and the world, a better place for all.

DI: What can attendees expect from the festival?

MF: Those who choose to attend any session will firstly be met by our brilliant volunteers and secondly, invited to join an open, safe space for collaboration and creative thought. It’s a joyful experience being a “Marmalader”, and we can’t wait to welcome new participants, and those who have been before, to relish in the wide variety of sessions on offer.

DI: What are some of the must attend events over the four days?

MF: What an impossible question to answer! It’s so dependent on what your personal interests are because we have sessions looking at climate, young people, homelessness, philanthropy, and so much more. We extend an opportunity to get creative with writing workshops, performances and enjoy film screenings. The best advice is to head over to our blog and see what the team are looking forward to…

DI: What does Marmalade hope to achieve this year?

MF: We’ve already surpassed the target we had in mind, which was originally 20 events – we have over 75 events taking place across Oxford! We hope that those attending and those presenting get what they need to help make social change. After all, that’s the whole point of Marmalade.

DI: Can you sum the festival up in three words?

MF: Collaboration, change, community

Marmalade Festival takes place from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th April 2023 across 6 venues in the centre of Oxford.
