Daily Info sat down with Robbie Cumming to discuss his forthcoming tour of his show, Canal Boat Stories, and what audiences can expect from it.
Daily Info: What’s Canal Boat Stories all about?
Robbie Cumming: It's an evening of stories, music, Q&A and behind the scenes on how I make my TV show Canal Boat Diaries. Intimate, interesting and humorous with never before seen photos and video clips.
DI: Banbury is famous for its canal (its part of the Oxford Canal). Are you excited to bring your show to the town?
Yes it'll be great to be back in Banbury, it's a place I've moored in several times and even got a ticket for overstaying once!
DI: Do you have a favourite UK canal? And what part do you feel they play as part of our day-to-day life?
RC: The Oxford canal is an incredibly popular canal, full of interesting industrial heritage and beautiful landscapes - but I do always seek out the lesser known parts of the system, and sometimes the more challenging ones, like the Rochdale, can be especially rewarding once you reach the summit.
DI: Do you have a favourite story about canal life?
RC: I don't want to spoil the show but there are a few stories such as having to call out fire and rescue on the River Aire, when my stove caught on fire. And, of course, how I originally got the call up to make my own show for the BBC.
DI: Can you sum the show up in three words?
RC: Surprisingly funny apparently!
Canal Boat Stories comes the Mill Arts Centre in Banbury on Thursday 3rd July and tickets can be found here.
