How much do you really know about the famous novelist Jane Austen? Although her image is set to appear on the new £10 notes in September, the popular perception of Austen as simply an author of romantic literature is being challenged in the Bodleian Libraries’ latest exhibition. Focusing on Austen’s achievements as a businesswoman, and uncovering who she drew her inspiration from, this exhibition will display the highlights from the Bodleian collection of Austen’s materials. To complement the exhibition, there will be two talks: one by Hilary Davidson, Historian and Curator of Fashion on what Jane wore, and the other by Professor Emma Clery on the risky nature of publishing during Austen’s lifetime.
