Become an explorer for the day with the Playhouse's Fun Palace, part of a nationwide network of events bringing together community and culture, and this year celebrating science and theatre. Children are invited to make lava lamps, and time machines(!), to explore the wildness of space and the sounds of the Shetlands.
Julia Golding, who writes about a theatrical orphan in her historical Cat Royal series and also the Curious Science Quests, will be signing books, The Curiosity Box (a monthly science subscription box) invite you to create a galaxy in a test tube, in a sample of the sort of intriguing activity they offer by post.
Most activities are aimed at primary age children, but littler ones can go on a story safari, and all ages are welcome, though please note the top room isn't accessible for buggies or wheelchairs. But this is a great opportunity to prove to your smalls that there isn't such a gulf between the drama of storytelling and the marvels of the universe as some people would have you believe.
