Artweeks: Edition 3 - Jane Peart, Heather Power & Morna Rhys

Active members of Oxford Printmakers Co-op, these three Artists regularly exhibit their contrasting styles as a group. Their different uses of printmaking to depict nature offer the viewer a varied and interesting exhibition.
Morna Rhys presents landscapes both near and far, from the 'Sunlit Church' of Skopelos to the 'Ancient Oaks' of Blenheim. Rhys' vibrant use of colour is uplifting, particularly in her prints inspired by river reflections and sunlit willows where the colours radiate beyond the picture. Sweeping landscapes show evocative images of Brittany and Cape Cornwall and are sure to make the viewer want to crank up the VW.
Jane Peart's representational work uses remarkably fine detail to perfect the likeness of animals and landscapes in black and white. The amazing technical detail of Peart's work brings out the majesty of 'Elephants at London Zoo', a 'Sleeping Lion' and a collection of zebras beautifully. A composition of otters from a visit to a wildlife park is excellently conceived. The realism is highly accurate and the prints allow the viewer to connect closely with some fascinating subjects.
Heather Power silkscreens the florescence of a seeding flower onto glass in white and grey to suggest a shadow. Pieces, such as 'Going to Seed' and 'Seedlings', are done on a different scale and are extremely pretty and highly original. The delight of Oxfordshire's Artweeks is meeting the Artist and it is a privilege to hear how such clever pieces of work are produced.
