The informal Irish Set Dance Class/Workshop gives you the chance to learn, well, set folk dances. These are danced in groups of eight and require fast footwork and synchronisation with one’s partner as well as the rest of the group. The organisers are keen to point out that this is not Step Dance (think Riverdance) so keep your Michael Flatley impression under wraps. Irish set dances are based on the quadrilles of old; the dance has been performed in Ireland for over 150 years and shows no sign of stopping! Keep an eye out for other forms of folk dance in Oxfordshire including ceilidhs, the Oxford International Folk Dance Group and the Oxford Historical Dances.
