In 1999 former rocker pub The Dolly opened its doors as the newly revamped Cellar nightclub. In the ensuing 18 years, generations of Oxford teenagers have attended their first live gigs in the pared-back, low-ceilinged intimacy of this independent music venue.

This Saturday's birthday celebrations promise to uphold the traditions that made the Cellar great, with early contributors Toby Kidd and Troll 23 joined by Scott Parker and Jack Richens, playing old skool, hip hop, classics, dance hall and jungle. It's a great chance to offer your support to a much-loved Oxford institution whose continued success is all the more important as independent music and community spaces are being lost to new developments.
