Exploring the striking similarities between the worlds of yoga and Star Wars. Refreshments available
Tara Yoga Centre, 2nd Floor Crown House, 193 Cowley Road, Oxford, (opposite O2 Academy, entrance on East Avenue) OX4 1UT, Sun 21 January 2018
That's yoga, not Yoda - although we're sure audience members will get to hear plenty about his teachings in this talk. Star Wars has had an impact on religion and spirituality since its inception, with hundreds of people selecting 'Jedi' as their religion in the census (worryingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, they're always accompanied by a few Sith). Now, following the release of The Last Jedi, Tara Yoga Centre will host a discussion on the parallels between the spiritual beliefs explored in Star Wars and the real-world focuses on mindfulness, compassion and selflessness that form part of yogic traditions, syncing perfectly with Obi-Wan's advice to "Be mindful of your thoughts".
The talk will take place at 7-8.30pm on Sunday 21st January at Tara Yoga Centre on Cowley Road. Admission is free, and refreshments are available for all attendees. Please note that there is no wheelchair or buggy access at the centre.
