Not in the mood to traipse around muddy/rock-hard fields in soggy boots while negotiating the grim portaloos? Thame Music Festival with over 60 multi-genre musicians and bands performing in 8 venues throughout the picturesque market town of Thame is the perfect alternative. Friday night focuses on up-and-coming talent by hosting a songwriters' competition, as well as on classical music, with performances from soprano Ann Mackay and the aforementioned Jack Gibbons.
On Saturday, there's a music industry convention where budding acts can gain advice from industry pros on promotion, songwriting, performing live, and how to avoid the music industry. The speakers for the convention include Radio 6 Music's Tom Robinson and producer of Radiohead, John Leckie who have years of experience ready to be passed onto the next generation. The festival itself will kick off at midday and includes performances from Dr Feelgood, The August List, Little Brother Eli, and many more, including a few Thamsians such as Ramona Rose and Monelise. Since it's all free (except for the Friday night classical concert) we suggest wandering around the town and letting your ears decide where you should go next.
