Oxford Open Doors

Spend the weekend exploring behind the scenes in Oxford for free! Hundreds of events and activities suitable for all ages, from tours of the historic buildings, to art exhibitions, concerts and talks in unusual surroundings.
Various locations across Oxford, Sat 8th & Sunday 9th September 2018
Once a year the doors of Oxford’s most revered institutions are opened to all for free. Organised by the Oxford Preservation Trust, Oxford Open Doors, in partnership with the University of Oxford, will be sharing some of the city’s hidden treasures for the 11th time!

Spread over the weekend, there are plenty of opportunities to explore beyond the colleges: visit the chemistry labs and meet the scientists working to eradicate cancer, test out your French while trying some wine and cheese at Alliance Française d’Oxford, go backstage at the North Wall, go on a running tour of Oxford, or watch demos while enjoying a BBQ at Rewley Road Fire Station. Of particular note is Vision and Dreams for the Invisible Artists, an art exhibition composed of 71 large canvas produced by Ugandan artists. David Lukani Odwar, the force behind the exhibition, is a ceramic artist who arrived in the UK aged 12 as an unaccompanied asylum seeker. He's also the founder and director of Through Art Keep Smiling (TAKS) a community arts centre based in Gulu, northern Uganda. David aims for the exhibition to establish links between the UK and Uganda through their collective appreciation of art and thus bring hope and joy to a community which has endured 30 years of civil war. The paintings are on sale and the proceeds will go towards funding the first ever art village in Gulu as well as constructing a perimeter wall around the centre.

Advanced booking is essential for all of the tours but most of the events are drop-ins so take this unique chance to see behind closed doors.
