With the advent of medical apps like period trackers and symptom monitors becoming more widespread, and the accompanying collection of vast sets of medical data, it seems only a matter of time before we’ll be able to carry around virtual GPs on our phones. This would be useful in a number of ways, cutting down appointment waiting times and potentially catching symptoms of diseases before they develop into full-blown conditions, but there are also risks and challenges posed by such developments – not least sharing personal data with huge organisations. This fascinating talk promises to weigh up these considerations with insights from those at the front lines of these technological advancements.
