QED Comedy at the Movies

A series of late night screenings to coincide with the Oxford Comedy Festival.

As part of their ludicrously packed comedy festival, QED Comedy Lab are helping to revive late-night screenings at the Ultimate Picture Palace. Every Saturday in July, a classic comedy will be screened alongside an introduction from the comedian that picked it.

First up there's Mean Girls (as picked by Adele Cliff), the supremely funny teen rom com written by the comedic titan Tina Fey, with stand out performances from the likes of Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Amy Poehler. This is followed by the bonkers-looking The American Astronaut (Matthew Chadourne's pick). A mix of sci-fi, musical and western and with a starring role for alt rockers The Billy Nayer Show, it's a film unlike any other.

The final two films are the a pair of classic British comedies. Withnail & I (Maddie Campion's choice) is the raucously funny and painfully tragic story of two unemployed actors that launched the career of Richard E. Grant, whilst An American Werewolf in London (selected by Rachel Fairburn from the All Killa No Filla podcast) is a near-perfect mix of comedy and horror and one of the best films of the 80s. Come for the American hikers lost on a Yorkshire moor, stay for the incredible, Oscar-winning special effects.
