A free arts trail celebrating West Oxford's relationship to its rivers
Venues around Osney Lock Hydro, OX2 0BB, Sat 13 July - Sun 14 July 2019
This weekend, Low Carbon West Oxford and Osney Lock Hydro are running a free river-themed community arts trail in West Oxford as part of the Heritage Lottery funded 'Osney Lock Hydro: Unlocking The Power of Our River' project. The project will give local people the chance to learn about the ecology of local streams and the river, which are home to a whole host of species of fish, as well as otters, kingfishers, herons and more. People from across the community will be invited to join in and help celebrate our centuries-old connection with the river.
20 locations have signed up to host art installations, and the creations will be on show from 10am to 8pm on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July.
Highlights include:
- Plastic waste river life made by students at West Oxford Community Primary School with community artist Groovy Su, on display at Osney Lock Hydro
- A series of 'ENOUGH' installations to echo the original red letters used during the 2007 floods, including one made from plastic collected from the local river, on display at Tumbling Bay Cafe, and another listing local endangered river species at Kingfisher Corner
- A river-themed grafitti board at WOCA by the fabulous Mani in collaboration with West Oxford Woodcraft pioneers
- A whole host of as yet unveiled river-themed creations made by, and displayed by, local residents especially for the weekend
