Like Riding a Bike: Co-creating a cycling environment for ages 9 to 90
How can we get people who used to cycle, or have never cycled, onto bikes?
John Henry Brookes Lecture Theatre, John Henry Brookes Building, Oxford Brookes University, Headington Campus, Gipsy Lane Site, Oxford OX3 0BP, Sat 7 September 2019
What's it like to cycle to the South Pole? Is virtual reality cycling the future of wellbeing? And how can Oxford become a friendlier, safer place for its ever-growing cycling population? These are some of the questions that will be explored at this special one-day conference run by Cyclox.
Council officers, elected Councillors, transport and environmental campaign groups, Cyclox members, community organisations interested in transport, active travel and health, local businesses and educational institutions, academics, other professional experts, and interested members of the public (whether you cycle or not!) are all invited to join the day and discuss how to create a cycling environment for Oxford residents aged 9-90. Among the high-profile line up of speakers, you can expect to hear from the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Anneliese Dodds MP and public health expert Sir Muir Gray.
As well as an insightful range of talks, there will be a panel discussion and a selection of interactive workshops, including the chance to try out the latest models in bike technology (e-bikes and adapted bikes included), and a pedal-powered 'safari' to Florence Park, where the Oxfordshire Liveable Streets campaign are designing a 'Mini-Holland' bike-friendly zone.
The conference will take place in the accessible John Henry Brookes Building at Oxford Brookes University, and tickets include lunch and refreshments.
