Live craft demos, have-a-go sessions on clay, candle-making, lace and weaving, and the chance to support lots of local crafters.
Unicorn Theatre, Abingdon, Checker Walk, Abingdon OX14 3HZ, Fri 8 November - Sun 10 November 2019
The medieval buildings of Abingdon's former Abbey are beautiful and awe-inspiring by themselves, but this weekend they're filled with 60 craftworkers displaying their wares and their skills.
There are seven different spaces such as the charming Unicorn Theatre, filled with craftworkers including some from the Oxfordshire Craft Guild, whose members will be mostly professional craftworkers. There'll be felt sculptures, fine art painting, jewellery and metalwork, ceramics, embroidery, photography and knitting.
As well as admiring the finished products (and perhaps assembling a wishlist), part of the joy of this sort of event is in meeting the makers, being able to talk about their inspiration and practices, and sometimes see something taking shape before your very eyes. Spinning and weaving demonstrations are promised, plus have-a-go sessions on clay, candle-making, and lace.
All profits go to the upkeep of the Abbey Buildings, and this sort of event is perfect for supporting local businesses.
