Musical performance of popular classics in aid of Refugee Resource’s 20th Anniversary.
Tingewick Hall, John Radliffe Hospital, Headley Way, Headington, Oxford OX3 9DU, Sat 9 November 2019
Radcliffe Orchestra will be performing their last concert of 2019 to raise funds for the charity Refugee Resource, who have been providing therapeutic services and other practical help for refugees and asylum seekers in Oxfordshire for 20 years.
The evening will commence with a display about Refugee Resource and its work, including an interactive quiz, facts about refugees, encouraging stories of some of the people helped by the charity, films, and examples of the work done by the charity's groups.
It will also see the launch of the new Come to Our Table 2 recipe book. After the popularity of the first recipe book, in which members of the Women's Group shared favourite recipes from their home countries, the group were asked to make a follow up, with even more recipes. The new edition contains 40 recipes from all the countries represented in the group including Sudan, Congo, Iraq, Syria and Gambia. Those visiting the display can enjoy a glass of the hibiscus juice made by the Women’s Group.
Then at 7.45pm, the Radcliffe Orchestra will perform a wonderful concert of favourite pieces, with Edgar Bailey as soloist. Concerts have been given by the orchestra, comprising musicians in the staff of Oxford's Health Services and their friends, since 1978. There are three concerts per year, and each concert raises money for one or more medical charities. The orchestra plays a popular classics programme, so this concert promises a delightful selection of favourites:
Beethoven: Overture Leonora 1
Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto ( soloist Edgar Bailey )
