Black Oxford Untold Stories are screening their new film, Christian Frederick Cole: The Story of England's First Black Barrister. Originally from Sierra Leone, then a British colony, Cole became the first black scholar at the University of Oxford, where he studied at University College, and later was the first black barrister at the Old Bailey in 1884. The film charts Cole's determination, courage and enthusiasm for his field of study, as well as the challenges and barriers he surpassed on the way to becoming a barrister, blazing a trail for those who came after him: there are now over 2000 practising black barristers in England and Wales.

Filmed on location at University College, Inner Temple and the Old Bailey, the film stars Prince Poxley and Moses Alexander, and was written, produced and directed by Pamela Roberts, FRSA, founder of Black Oxford Untold Stories. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Roberts and those involved in the film. It's a fascinating story and an unmissable opportunity to learn more about a unique historical figure.
