The organiser says:
A space for all you dears, queers, poets, performers, curious, cured, muses, amused, Qu(h)ear Voices invites you to come and be part of the making and shaping of this exciting new evening!
Oxford Brookes MA student Vicki Churchill felt inspired to form a new monthly spoken word open mic, ‘Qu(h)ear Voices’, to provide a different kind of space in Oxford, loosely based on nights she frequented on London’s Queer scene of the 90s: a multi-cultural, non-judgmental, creative space, where freedom of expression can be explored through spoken word, performance, music and fashion, fuelled by the tenacity to be fabulous!
Vicki spent her youth writing songs and playing in bands (alt-Indie to drum and bass) and is currently majoring in Poetryunder the tutelage of poet and lecturer Mary Jean Chan, winner of the 2019 Costa Book Award for Poetry. The evening hosted by Vicki, will have regular contributions from up and coming Resident QV Poet: Ella Cunningham, with incidental music selected by Apollonia and each month a special guest will perform. February’s launch night special guest is Oxford based guitarist and songwriter Julia Meijer.
You can be part of the making and shaping of this exciting new monthly event, for the brave and budding, the extroverted-introvert, the practiced plenty and the practiced none… friends and allies, lovers in lewks, performing poets, come all ye and we will lend you our EARS!
