This Valentine's Day, show the planet some love! Open to all - is there anything more romantic than planning [having] a future together?
Bonn Square, OX1 1LQ, Fri 14 February 2020
This Valentine's Day (February 14th) at 11am, activists from UKSCN Oxford will be striking from school in a love and inclusion-themed protest, to bring together people of all ages from across Oxfordshire.
Student activists from Abingdon will be sharing information about eco clubs and societies in their schools, including news of a sustainable energy partnership. Band For Climate will also be attending and supporting, leading some songs for the whole protest to join in with together.
"For many of us this marks a year since we first started striking, February 2019 was an important time for many young people, some of whom had never been to a protest before" says activist EJ Fawcett, aged 18. They added:
"It's important especially on days like this to remember that we have more that unites us than divides us, we will all be affected by the climate crisis and we need to work together to mitigate it."
Adults, led by Parents For Future, will be showing support at 12pm. Rowan Ryrie explains why: “It is fitting for a Valentine’s Day strike that as parents, grandparents and carers, our main motivation for joining this strike is our love for our children. We feel a huge responsibility to do everything we can to try to leave our children - and all children - a healthy planet to grow up on; we will be encircling the strikers at midday to show our support and would like to encourage all adults – whether with or without children – to join us. These young strikers have been asking for climate action for a year now and it’s time the adults joined them!”
So why not head along to show your solidarity and learn how you can get involved with making a difference to climate activism going forward?
