This year, why not show mum your appreciation for all she does by inspiring her to take up a new skill or hobby? Better still, you could do so for free if you win our Mother’s day competition. We’re offering a choice of fabulous courses available from local experts here in Oxfordshire. Each prize consists of a single place on the course - so that your mum (or guardian) can enjoy learning something new just for herself!

Choose between specialist cookery, thanks to the culinary geniuses at Rivergrass Cookery School, or beginners’ Italian, courtesy of The Italian Experience Cotswold.

Sound good? For your chance to win, simply tell us about a food that reminds you of your mum OR a favourite memory from a holiday you've shared together - you can be as creative as you like. Enter below (please include your phone number if possible!) or email us on [email protected]

The dishes which my mother made and which I make today are traditional Polish and Eastern European ones. 'Bigos' or Hunter's Broth to give it it's English name, is a stew mainly made up of: white cabbage, sauerkraut and pork (boiling ring or similar) a traditionally Polish. The second dish is Borscht, beetroot soup popular in east and central Europe... whenever I make either I'm reminded of my mother's versions and wonder what she'd think of my versions of them!

My mother's home-made soups and stews with dumplings are the best and when my siblings and I know there's a pot on the stove, it brings us all together. To me its what makes a happy family moment and cherished memories. The hearty goodness of good old basic cooking.

The food item that reminds me of my mother is good-for-the-soul warm buttered toast

My childhood memory of my Mum's cooking is the wonderful pies she used to make from the leftover meat from the Sunday Roast. She would mince the meat then add fresh breadcrumbs to make it go further, and make the pastry herself from scratch. It was just so delicious.

The food that reminds me of my Mamma is Swedish bullar, which she and Mormor (Mamma's Mamma) always have in the freezer to heat up with a cup of tea or some warm milk. I love to help her make them too!

– From Orry, aged 3

The food that reminds me of my mum is a delicious roast dinner, with a golden cloud of Yorkshire pudding, crisp-on-the-outside-and-fluffy-on-the-inside potatoes, glossy gravy, perfectly-cooked veg and tender slices of beef. Yum, my mouth's watering at the thought!
