Christ Church 500 Music Festival

A series of concerts, recitals and special events throughout October and November, marking 500 years since the founding of Cardinal College as it was first, and its world-famous choir.

Franz Joseph Haydn's The Creation

Inaugural concert in the festival celebrating 500 years of music at Christ Church will feature: The English Concert, Christ Church Cathedral Choir and Frideswide Voices

Violin and Piano Recital: Charlie Lovell-Jones and Julian Chan

All known works for violin and piano by Sir William Walton, including the Italianate Two Pieces, Mozart’s last large scale work for violin and piano, written concurrently with Don Giovanni and Respighi’s monumental Violin Sonata of 1917.

Piano Recital: Louise Guy

This programme reflects her passion for Romantic music, tracing an emotional journey from the love and heartbreak of the song transcriptions to the exuberance of Chopin’s Grande Polonaise and the virtuosic, yet whimsical, La Campanella.

Walton Façade

Façade – An Entertainment, first performed in 1923, is a series of poems by renowned, English modernist Edith Sitwell, recited over William Walton’s jazz-influenced and rhythmically vibrant music. This event will be a rare opportunity to experience a performance, followed by a three course meal with wine, in the Renaissance grandeur of Christ Church Great Hall. Ticket price covers both performance and dinner.
