OUDS New Writing Festival 2018

Annual festival showcasing the best new student playwrights.

The future has arrived in the form of the OUDS New Writing Festival, the society's annual celebration of new theatre. Proceedings kick off with the Opening Gala at Blackwell's Bookshop. There will be performances of single scenes and a bar throughout the evening, with the Blackwell's Prize for Best Single Scene being judged and presented on the night.

The festival will then move to the Burton Taylor Studio where the four pieces of new writing which make up the centrepiece of this year's festival will be performed. Dinner with Aurora is a meet the parents comedy with the added twist of a AI home assistant, creating complications for an already divided group. Shock Therapy draws from themes of urbanisation and isolation to portray the technological excess of today. The C Bomb deals with pesky microbes, in the form of chlamydia, mining the subject for laughs and weaving a tale of friendship and betrayal. And then there's This Much I Know, which surveys more universal themes, exploring the complicated relationships that exist between mothers and daughters.
