ROAR Festival 2019

A one-day celebration of disabled youth artists with an emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity
Ark T Centre, Crowell Road, Cowley, Oxford OX4 3LN, Fri 30 August 2019

This weekend sees the return of ROAR, the arts extravaganza that provides disabled young people with the chance to develop their creativity and artistic talents. Curated by Oxford's Ark T Centre, the festival looks to champion inclusivity and break down the barriers traditionally faced by disabled people in the arts.

The day is absolutely jam-packed with great activities. A broad range of workshops offer the opportunity to try a fun taster session of samba drumming, animation or digital music production, while throughout the day there will be drop-in activities for all: try your hand at hair styling or badge making, record your own vox pops, or check out the artwork of members of the ROARsomes youth group at their exhibition. And don't expect to leave without some face paint or glitter!

And when the fun winds down at the Ark T Centre, head down to the Old Fire Station for some comedy from Richard Stott and Georgie Morrell. Stott, one of the UK's most well-known performers with Poland Syndrome, is fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, where his show Right Hand Man received rave reviews. Actor, comedian and self-proclaimed 'one-eyed legend' Morrell also raised the roof at the Fringe and now brings her show, Eyecon, to Oxford for one night only. Both performers offer unique and candid observations about disability, celebrity and body image. Anarchic, acerbic, and rip-roaringly funny, these two are not to be missed.
