Bow down to the almighty Minions. They've been everywhere for the past few years thanks to the ludicrously successful previous three films (worth a total of $2.7 billion worldwide and rising) and now they're back with Despicable Me 3. On paper the series follows the supervillain Gru (voiced with charm by Steve Carell) but it is his army of yellow workers that are the real stars here.

The plot this time sees Gru discover his long-lost brother, take up supervillainy again and fight 80s-themed competitor Balthazar Brat (Trey Parker from South Park joining the series). These movies have always been light-hearted and simple, but is the kind of bubblegum fun that cinema needs more of, with enough jokes for parents and children to keep all the family entertained.
