How far would you go to get rid of a problematic stepdad? That is the crux of Thoroughbreds, a cool indie thriller from first-time director Cory Finley. Amanda and Lily concoct a plan to be rid of Lily's stepfather, drawing a local dropout into their scheme. There's a lot to love about this film, thanks its witty script and sharp direction from Finley. But most prominently this is one of the last films Anton Yelchin, the supremely talented actor, worked on before he passed away. It's an opportunity to remember a star who balanced roles in blockbusters with some great work in smaller films.

As well as Yelchin, the film features two of the best young actors to emerge in recent years: Anya Taylor-Joy (so very good in The Witch) and Olivia Cooke (the best thing about both Ready Player One and Me, Earl and the Dying Girl). This film promises to be a rewardingly cool viewing experience.
