Belgium's entry for this year's Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, Racer and the Jailbird comes to cinemas with a degree of prestige. Director Michaël R. Roskam's previous films include the critically adored Bullhead as well as The Drop (one of the supremely talented James Gandolfini's last films). The script comes from the writers of Rust and Bone, A Prophet and Dheephan. And the film's two leads are Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, The Danish Girl) and Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Colour).

The film follows Bibi, a racing car driver, who meets Gigi, a gangster, charting the rise and fall of their love affair on a backdrop of Gigi's gang's brutal heists. Racer and the Jailbird promises to be a classy take on a genre picture, propelled by a central pair on the cusp of arthouse cool.
