Hoping to do for Playmobil what the Lego Movie did for their Danish competitor, Playmobil: The Movie arrives in cinemas as a family-friendly August lift. The film follows Marla who is zapped into the world of the eponymous toy and must find her missing brother amongst the strange characters around her. Think of this as Tron but with less neon and a cast of plastic figures.

Playmobil certainly has an eclectic cast. At its centre is the supremely talent Anya Taylor-Joy, more familiar for her indie genre fare (The Witch, Thoroughbreds, Split), who's supported by American comedians Jim Griffigan and Kenan Thompson. But there are also supporting turns for US pop stars Meghan Trainor and Adam Lambert, and the star of one of the biggest franchises ever, Daniel Radcliffe. The film marks the directorial debut for Lino DiSalvo, but he does have a wealth of animation experience, working on the likes of Frozen, Tangled and Bolt. So maybe this will be one late summer animation that'll have something for the adults being dragged along by eager children.
