Director James Gray follows his sadly underseen epic The Lost City of Z with another towering technical achievement. Ad Astra has stellar ambitions, taking Brad Pitt's Roy McBride on a trip across the solar system to seek out his missing father. Visually stunning (thanks to cinematography from the Oscar-nominated Hoyte Van Hoytema, and more than a few computer-generated pixels), Ad Astra went down a storm at the Venice Film Festival, garnering awards buzz, in particular for Pitt, joining the likes of Gravity, The Martian and Interstellar as recent must see sci-fi.
