Austrian-born director Jessica Hausner makes her English language debut with icy thriller Little Joe. The film follows corporate plant breeder and single mother Alice as she develops a brand new species of plant. The flower created manages to lift the mood of those around it but may have a more adverse effect.

The visually-stunning film benefits from an ensemble packed with talent. Having impressed in Daphne, Emily Beecham takes the lead (and won best actress at the Cannes Film Festival) alongside a supporting cast that includes Ben Whishaw (soon to be seen in the next series of Fargo) and Kerry Fox. Distinctly shot by Martin Gschlacht, Little Joe looks a strange, compelling visual treat and a must-see for all sci-fi fans.
