Not, by any means, at all scary. I'm sad to say that this sequel is even more dull than the first. Maybe it's just me but I don't find astral-projection even remotely spooky.
Unlike the original Insidious, which had some decent jumps and a good plot, chapter two simply seems repetitive. Many of the scenes seem to consist of Renai, the leading woman, going downstairs to see who is playing the piano or making strange noises which gets extremely tedious. I feel as if the whole "Oh, what's that noise? Maybe I should go and investigate... Oh, it's nothing" thing is a bit cliched now. Trying too hard to be clever and answer questions from the first film, chapter 2 is just preparing itself to become a trilogy. Boring.
Patrick Wilson's acting was okay but nothing special. The costumes were as interesting as they could be in such a film. I have to admit that although I don't at all find the concept of the two films at all intriguing or shocking but at least it is different. But, then again, in an obvious attempt to be alternative, director James Wan takes a typical horror approach at scaring the audience which is confusing to say the least.
The first Insidious film is usually a film that I recommend to anybody that is trying to get into horror films but doesn't want anything too hardcore. However, I will never recommend chapter 2 to anybody because it is a perfect example of a film that will never have any real conclusion due to its persistent attempt at trying to create a successful cliffhanger which has now failed in both films.
4/10.
