Originally established as a nonconformist institution in the late nineteenth century, Mansfield only became a full college of Oxford University in 1995. While most of the codebreaking took place at Bletchley Park, Mansfield was also home to members of the Government Code & Cypher School during World War II. Like many of Oxford's colleges, Mansfield admitted its first mixed-sex cohort in 1979, having previously not accepted women to read for Oxford degrees. It has a good reputation for taking well over the University average of state school students to read undergraduate degrees every year.
