Oh dear our village pub has been given a makeover, resulting in an atmosphere that has all the charm of the household section of TK Maxx. All the colour and welcoming feel has been drained out of it, and worse, it has those dreadful pocket philosophies stencilled on the wall - in capitals! Despite the sign at the lock saying food is served all day, on asking to eat I was told the kitchen was closed until 6pm. This has been my local for 25 years, but no longer.

Staying at the hotel up the road from Prince of Wales, I took a walk to de-stress after a busy day at work (I'm away on business). Peter and Pam very friendly and hospitable, food was terrific and the tea - 
I have never known a bar/pub have such a vast selection of tea! (I recommend the Scottish tea.)
Very nice English pub, still traditional with a modern, yet tastefully done twist. Very comfortable.
I can't wait until this place has rooms to rent by the night.

Had a really lovely Sunday lunch here with my relations at the weekend. Food was fresh, delicious and well-priced. Unusually the vegetarian roast was as tasty and generous in portion-size as the meat roasts and the selection of vegetables with it was more imaginative than most. Home made sticky toffee pudding to die for and with choice of cream, custard or ice cream. Other desserts also looked good and home-made.

Staff friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming here again. Pub is traditional with a few modern twists but nothing to destroy the historic character which is a refreshing change. Music eclectic and non-obtrusive. No horrible football screens. Only slight downside is that the beer is a bit pricey in this pub.

Other than that a four and three quarters stars out of five from me.

It's always interesting to ponder what rubs people up the wrong way, especially when you read reviews. In the context of the reviews written about the Prince of wales in Iffley I wonder if the few people who complained would ever be satisfied?

The overwhelming majority of reported positive experiences from this pub all seem to be along the line of the friendly atmosphere and quality of the meals. Isn't that what going to a pub is all about? When we first went to this pub a number of years ago it was ok, but average, on both these ingredients. What a difference new management and a few years has made.

We love staying in Iffley, and this year was made all the more memorable by the Prince of Wales experience. Spoilt for choice by the proximity of 3 pubs, the Prince of Wales won out. First up I have to congratulate the staff, especially the girls behind the bar who were so friendly and helpful. They conveyed my wife's special dietary requirements to the kitchen who did a brilliant job, and after a couple of visits they knew what we liked to drink and were ready to line them up.

So, full marks for friendliness and efficiency. But it was more than that, we felt welcome, and it was easy to relax and enjoy some quality cooking at entirely reasonable pricing over a few drinks that were no more expensive than any of the other UK pubs we occasion to visit. So potential pub goers, if you really want a good experience, head on down to the Prince of Wales where you can sample among other things the best fish cakes ever over a pint of your choice. Go on, give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

After returning home to Australia after our third trip to Iffley I wanted to share my experience of pub life in a small English village. As a rule I don't read reviews before trying a pub, so I was somewhat intrigued by the reviews for the Prince of Wales on this page. Most seemed very genuine in their praise, but the few negative ones had a ring of another agenda about them.

Unless you had been really badly treated or poisoned why would you whinge about a place when there are better things in life? Having said that, most reviewers like to share positive experiences, and this has got to be one of the best pubs in the UK in a country renowned for great pubs. You are spoilt for choice in Iffley Village, The Prince of Wales is a great experience in terms of exceptional staff, first rate meals if you are looking to dine out, and a welcoming feeling the minute you step through the door.

They catered for my wife's special dietary needs without fuss, and fed my cousins to complete satisfaction. I developed an addiction for their fish cakes and ale and beef pies after a few visits, and have taken home some great memories of dropping in for a quiet beer only to be ambushed by the staff who always seemed to know how to keep me there. I simply wish to say "thank you" to the Prince of Wales for making our stay in Iffley such a pleasant one, and I look forward to more visits in the future.

We've started using this pub as a local since moving nearby a few months ago. Despite this not being the closest pub, I'm happy to walk further and to pay a premium for a such a well-kept local with friendly regulars, knowledgeable bar-staff, good food and excellent cellar.

There's ample parking, a good beer garden and it's dog friendly, which is a real plus given it's so close to the river. The food is good and well presented and the specials are varied - I've even seen Frog's Legs on the menu.

It's not the cheapest pub in the area, but the quality and atmosphere are well worth the extra.

I was shocked to see such a bad review, I have never left a review before but now feel I must! My family and I have been visiting this wonderful pub now for several years, we have always had excellent restaurant standard food and excellent service from the staff! we bring our friends and family here when they visit as it's so good, the place is spotlessly clean with obviously high standards which you don't see in pubs these days. On one occasion we incorrectly misordered and our waitress returned it to the kitchen and brought us what we wanted without question even though the error was our own fault! So I find it difficult to believe that they would leave an unhappy table with food they say was not up to parr, unless they had already eaten it that is! I just want to give this place a massive thumbs up and we will continue to visit and enjoy your pub as will the rest of your many happy followers.Wishing you all the best and chin up!

We had lunch yesterday at the Prince of Wales and were very disappointed. There were five of us and we all chose simple stuff (panini or baguette with chips and salad); we were all disappointed. The very greasy fries were warm at best and even though we had asked the girl behind the bar if the cumberland sausage would be hot (to which she replied that it would be) in the end it wasn't. Also, it was supposed to be served with onions but none were to be seen. We were asked by a waitress if everything was ok and we related our complaints. She said she would pass the info on to the chef but we heard nothing else. Nice pub in a fantastic location but it shouldn't be allowed to get away with this rubbish.
