Irreverent Oxford podcast to stage first live recording with a festive twist.
Saint Misbehavin’, the irreverent theological podcast from two of Oxford’s finest atheist comedians, is set to have its first live recording at The Jam Factory (OX1 1HU) on 12th December at 2pm - creating a Christmas show like no other.
Promising to delight existing listeners and new fans alike, the festive special will explore the little-known legends of a well-known yuletide figure, Saint Nicholas - making it the perfect way to spend a Sunday in Advent, especially if you enjoy your Christmassy entertainment with a side of impiety.
Who is the ‘real Saint Nick’? What is his connection to pharmacists, sex workers and would-be cannibals? And should we really be honouring his legacy with showy gift-giving, or picking up on his less famous trait of slapping heretics? These and many more questions will be explored in hilarious fashion during an afternoon of non-traditional merriment.
From QED Comedy Lab, the company behind Oxford’s experimental comedy shows and the Oxford Comedy Festival, Saint Misbehavin’ is a podcast about saints from people who are not. Once a fortnight, atheist theology graduate and stand-up comedian Anna Dominey and saint-obsessed lapsed Catholic Matthew Chadourne explore the life and legends of an obscure saint.
Taking a comedic trip through the liturgical calendar, the pair have so far discovered a range of revered figures, whether it’s sailors talking to birds, reformed, medieval party-boys, priests working egg based miracles or headless shepherdesses; they’re examining them all in a quest to find out how to become better people (though they can’t promise any realistic advice). So whether you’re looking for a new way to keep entertained on your commute, or are after an unusual comedy show to make your spirits rise, the pair invite you to head to The Jam Factory where they will inspire and educate you - or at least make you laugh a lot.
