What's a PDF?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is designed to allow you to view the file exactly as it would appear on paper, and is a proprietory format of Adobe. Although it suffers from many minor glitches, it provides the exact, platform-independent reproduction of documents as well as small file sizes.
To view one, you need to have Acrobat Reader installed on your machine. This is available for download free from Adobe here.
PROs:
- Because PDFs are usually laid out for print, they can be easier on the eye than a web page.
- You can print the file out on your own printer easily and at better resolution than most other web images (ie. not fuzzy).
- If it's the DI sheet you want to look at, you can see the current version without having to leave your room!
CONS:
PDF files can be large so may take a while to download if you're on a slow internet connection. Have patience!
