Few cities are more inspiring contexts for live music than Oxford: from quartets in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building to dub at the Wheatsheaf; from Tchaikovsky at the Sheldonian to jazz in the town hall, to a folk-filled yurt in the middle of Port Meadow.

We cover gigs, opera and concerts in our events listings, but this page concerns tutoring, rehearsing and finding instruments or resources. Plenty of kids and students in town will want to learn an instrument - you could give them lessons. Blackwell's Music on Broad Street is a great resource for sheet music, with 10% discount for tutors. Maybe an eccentric guitarist is the missing piece in your quest to become the next Radiohead; find one here. Maybe there'll be some rare vinyl to snap up. You might even find a free piano!

Amongst the musicians the city has produced are: Hubert Parry, who adapted Blake's 'Jerusalem', studied and taught here; Andrew Lloyd Webber, who abandoned Magdalen College after a term to pursue musical theatre; Rock acts such as Supergrass (RIP), Foals, The Young Knives, Stornoway; and plenty of characters from our vibrant busking scene (the rules of the game are in 'useful links' if you want to get involved). So if you want to join these ranks, find yourself a battery amp through these listings, and maybe make some musical history yourself.
